Frequently asked QUESTIONS

  • Why "Hair of the Dog"?
    Because after much market research, and a whole life time of having to spell my name, I realized that I needed a better name for my pet portrait business than Kelly Bozarth Kopacka Pet Portraits! Plus, I love puns, delicious cocktails, and everything about dogs.
     

  • How do you paint your pet portraits?
    Your pet portrait will be hand-painted by me using professional grade, acrylic paints on gallery wrapped canvas. I take your photos and ideas and combine them into a Photoshopped "sketch," and after you have approved the digital proof, I do my magic with a real paintbrush!
     

  • How much are your pet portraits?
    Prices depend on the size of canvas you choose. I can provide a quote for any additional size not currently offered. Please add $50 for each additional pet in the same painting.
     

  • What is the process to place a pet portrait order?

-To get started, send me an e-mail with your ideas!
 

-Choose the size of your canvas. 
 

-E-mail me several photos of your pup from a few different angles so I can be sure to get all their spots and colors right. If you have any additional idea photos that you want to include, send those, too!
 

-Tell me any ideas of things you want incorporated!
 

-Next, I come up with a digital proof of what the painting will look like and e-mail it to you for approval.
 

-I send you a photo of the finished painting for final approval,  seal it with varnish, and then ship it to you! I will cover up to $30 of the shipping costs.​

 

  • If I want more than one pet on the same painting, do they need to be in the same photo together?
    Nope! Just send me your favorite shots of all the pets you’d like included and I can combine them in the artwork so that they’re all in the same piece. If you can, please send at least one photo showing the size difference between the pets. For each additional pet in one painting, add an extra $50 to the base price.​

  • What payments do you accept?
    I currently accept Paypal or Venmo.
     

  • How much is shipping?
    I will cover up to $30 for shipping within the continental United States. If you are ordering an over-sized painting, I may contact you for additional shipping! All paintings are insured. 
     

  • Do you ship internationally?
    Yes, I can ship internationally at postage cost. I cannot guarantee extra fees associated with customs or that items will ship by a certain date.
     

  • How long does it take to complete my custom pet portrait order?
    The turnaround time depends on how many portraits I am currently working on, but I can typically complete a painting in 7-14 days. All pet portraits are done in the order I receive them, but I do ask that you include approximately when you need yours! I do post a cut-off date for winter holiday portraits.
     

  • Can I request changes to the pet painting after I see the digital proof?
    The digital proof will be followed to the best of my ability as an artist! Remember, you are purchasing a painting and not a photo! Reasonable alterations can be requested to the painting until you are 100% satisfied at no charge. 
     

  • Do you offer gift certificates?
    YES! Just e-mail me the amount and I can send you a paper certificate to gift, or mail it for you.
     

  • What is your favorite cocktail?
    My go-to is a Tito's Vodka Gimlet on the rocks. But my hair of the dog is a Dixie Black Pepper Vodka Bloody Mary loaded with olives and pickled okra.
